Brian Fennelly

He was born in 1937, and studied at Yale, earning a M. Mus in 1965 and his Ph.D in 1968.  That year, he joined the Faculty of Arts and Science at New York University, where he stayed for nearly 30 years before retiring (early) as Professor of Music in 1997.  Besides the teaching and composing, he performed on the keyboard and has seen several recordings of his efforts remain in the current catalogue, with an Albany CD of five orchestral works due out soon.

Keiko Fujiie

Keiko Fujiie received a postgraduate degree from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and has twice won the coveted Otaka Prize. Fujiie received the Kenzo Nakajima Award in 1996 and support from the Asian Cultural Council resulted in a residency in New York for several months in 1992/93. She was born in 1963 in Kyoto and has written works for dance companies and orchestras, and is well known for her works composed for guitarist Kazuhito Yamashita. Irihi no raku , one of the works on the Cal Performances program, was commissioned by Music From Japan in celebration of its 30 th anniversary

JoAnn Kuchera-Morin

JoAnn Kuchera- Morin is UCSB Professor of Composition, Director of CREATE- Center for Research in Electronic Art Technology, and Chair of the Media Arts & Technology Program. She received her Ph.D. from the Eastman School of Music in 1984. Commissions include Paleo for double bass and computer-generated tape, Speira for solo flute, Concerto for Clarinet and Clarinets , a composition for solo clarinet and computer-generated tape, and Dreampaths , a cantata for soprano Elizabeth Mannion, computer-generated tape and five singers. Recent performances include the premiere of Paleo at the 2001 International Computer Music Conference in Havana, Cuba. Paleo also recently won Grand Prize in the Electronic Medium Division of the 2002-2003 International Bassist Society Composition Competition and will be performed as part of their Conference, June 2-4 in Richmond, Virginia. Other performances include a premiere of Speira at Merkin Concert Hall in New York in 1992 and a subsequent tour by flutist Jill Felber who performed Speira across the United States during her 1993/94 concert tour; a premiere of Concerto for Clarinet and Clarinets , at the 1991 International Computer Music Conference in Montreal, Canada; a tour of Concert Artists Guild 1990 performance winner, Hakan Rosengren, who performed Yugen, for solo clarinet, in Los Angeles, New York City, Boston and Miami, and a premiere of Dreampaths at the 1989 International Computer Music Conference. Other performances include Aquaformes for computer-generated tape, premiered at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and performed at the 1987 New Music Festival in Brazil and the 1987 International Computer Music Conference. Awards include Third Place in the 1995 Internationaux Grand Prix de Musique Electroacoustique, the most prestigious electro-acoustic composition competition in the world, an ASCAP/Hanson Award for innovative chamber music and the 1989 UCSB Harold J. Plous Award for excellence in research.
