I accumulate objects, images, or actions and reconfigure them to hone my observations and interpretations of contemporary society. I characterize and critique human behavior by uncovering the stories contained in everyday acts and discarded objects. The work addresses our disregard for and thoughtlessness toward our world, and involves both myself and the viewer in a sense of responsibility.
My work is like a socio-archaeological study of my immediate surroundings. My methods of observation are influenced by previously studying biology, and my critical perspective with regard to societal habits in the U.S. has been sharpened by living in Central America.
Contemporary urban life is full of pathologies, like littering and drug abuse, that develop and become accepted, or at least tolerated. We interact with our immediate environment, and with other people, in ways that are often illogical or selfish, leading to an ultimate sense of loss and futility.
